BASC (Behavior Assessment System for Children)
Companies
selling this rating scale have made the claim that it “holds an
exceptional track record for providing a complete picture of a child’s
behavior.” Basc-2 is toted as providing “the most comprehensive set of
rating scales”; comprehensive rating scales that take a whopping 10-12
minutes to administer. In this unbelievably short amount of
time the makers of this assessment claim that it will “measure areas
important to both IDEA and DSM-IV classifications.” What is
telling about sites marketing this test is their own admission that with
this rating scale you get a “strong base of theory and research which
gives you a thorough set of highly interpretable scales.”
Surprisingly this fact, that the BASC is based in theory and research
(What we know is NOT scientific fact) falls under what they list as a
benefit to the administrator of the “test”.
